We talked about Burke, but not about the Pentad.  I found some sources that may help me: The Rhetoric of Fiction – Wayne C. Booth; Detective Fiction – Robin W. Wink; Bloody Murder – Julian Symons; The Detective Novel of Manners – Hanna Charney; The World of the Thriller – Ralph Harper.  I’m not sure if I will use all of these, but I find them interesting.  As for the classical rhetoric, I am looking at Aristotle for my source.  Before I can look for the rhetoric devices the author uses to establish the detective’s ethos, I need to clear about the devices.  It is important that I reread Aristotle to be clear on that point.  I think this is a good start.
