“Distant Voices”
“Distant Voices” is interesting. As many of the school districts that have the means to do so, are using technology to enhance teaching, those that don’t are relying on Government subsidies in order to try for some semblance of parity. This is the wave of the future and this wave is settling in our ever complicating present. Technology as a primary means of teaching can help students by allowing pupils to access information that would otherwise be out of reach . The reason writing classes remain tedious is that the only way to interact with a student is face to face in order to teach English Conventions such as grammar. Technology is the choice of enhancement in the classroom as a means of instruction. As technology advances, pedagogical traditions may begin to adapt to the needs of the society at large. For example, students can get more access to subject matter material through a Web Quest than they could by just traditionally listening to a single instructor providing information. This integration of technology makes the classroom environment interactive. The students work with intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. They interact by sharing ideas, and they exercise internalization through motivations that are self invested.
There is this idea that technology is only meant as a supplement. The reality of what a concept is in reality and the intended purpose is. In many cases are worlds apart. As educators we are told to be flexible, in terms of technology and the applications concerning the classroom, I recommend the same school of thought in the realm of technology. As this wave of information threatens to turn into a tsunami, education should adequately prepare for the challenges that lie ahead of them. Technology is not going to slow down nor take a back seat to traditionalist views. Educational institutions should get ready to ride the wavo of the future and educate the masses on the positive aspects of technology. After all…Humans fear what they don’t know. If people do not understand technological advances, then they will try to kill them.
